This Transformation is Taking a Long Time

I am so tired of not being what I want to be.

I am stuck and angry and talking to myself

wondering maybe it’s just that

this transformation is taking a long time.

I am curious why it is so hard to accomplish.

I know what it is to manifest with ease.

I have had thimes in my life

when the weight, the heaviness

slips off

and I move freely.

Oh, how I celebrate those times!

Inside lined up no conflict

all forward with intentions.

I have been learning some deeper lessons.

It has been dark down here,

and I can’t exactly tell you what I’m doing.

In this place I don’t have the luxury

to tell myself what I’m doing.

Eagles and leopards in my dreams,

but in the world manifest,

it is all abou the worm.

No eyes, no complex intellectualities.

All Sensation.

Guiding.

I am completing a cycle.

It has been a challenging journey, and oh, how I long for the sun.

Some days are meant for rest,

so much digging and digesting.

So I rest

in the dark

with the weight of the world

all around me

and in my heart

hold to the knowing that spring comes,

and dream

that maybe through all of these changes,

I will be given wings,

and just like the gentle butterfly,

take lightly to the sky.

You Are a Perfect Yet Expanding Being, in A Perfect Yet Expanding World, in A Perfect Yet Expanding Universe

It is important that you know these things:

You are a physical extension of Source Energy.

The physical world you live in provides a perfect environment in which to create.

The variety that exists helps you focus your own personal desires or preferences.

When a desire is focused within you, the summoning of Creative Life Force immediately begins to flow toward your desire – and the Universe expands. And that is good.

Your conscious realization of the Creative Process is not necessary in order for it to continue.

The Leading-Edge environmnet that you are physically focused in will continue to stimulate new desires in all who participate.

Every desire or preference, no matter how large or small it may seem to you, is understood and answered by All-that-Is.

As the Universe expands the variety expands.

As the variety expands, your experience expands.

As your experience expands, your desire expands.

As your desire expands, the answering of your desire expands.

And the Universe expands – and that is good. In fact, it is perfect.

You live in an eternally expanding environment, which constantly causes newly focused desires within you, which Source immmediately and always answers.

With each receiving of that which you are asking for, you achieve a new vantage point from which you spontaneously ask again.

And so, the expansion of the Universe and your personal expansion will always be as follows:

— You live in an expanding Universe

— You live in an expanding World

— You are an expanding Being

— And all of this is, whether you consciously understand it or not

— This Universe is eternally expanding, and so are you

— And that is Good!

Your expansion is a given; the expansion of your time-space-reality is a given, and the expansion of this Universe is a given. It is just ever so much more satisfying for you to consciously and deliberately participate in your own expansion!

Fear is one of the most powerful human emotions. Its strong, persuasive grip can be paralyzing. To maximize both your personal and business success, it’s imperative to identify and control – or better yet … blast through – your fears. Otherwise, your fears control you and you’ll be a victim of your own fearful thinking.

So how can you blast through your fears to achieve the success you want and deserve? By identifying and resolving them. It takes focused effort, but the payoffs are huge.

Many fears that solopreneurs and entrepreneurs experience can be categorized into one of four categories: 1) fear of failure, 2) fear of success, 3) fear of rejection or 4) fear of selling. To gain control of your fears, you must first identify them (many fears go unidentified), and then have techniques to minimize or resolve them. Let’s look at how to do this.

The willingness to fail, in order to succeed, is a hallmark of high performers.

1. Fear of failure.

Fear of failure shows up in many ways. Here are eight faces of the fear of failure (eight ways it manifests itself).
1.    Not giving 100%
2.    Procrastination
3.    Anger
4.    Crying
5.    Rationalization
6.    Indecision
7.    Avoidance
8.    Withdrawal

Unless you learn to embrace failure, you’ll remain tightly snuggled inside your comfort zone. The willingness to fail in order to succeed is a hallmark of high performers.

Success requires failure. Sometimes a lot of it.

Failure is a moment in time; it’s not your destiny.

You can begin to resolve fear of failure the same way you can with all four fears: Identify it, embrace it and disidentify with it. Your fear is not you! Disidentifying with it means realizing that you aren’t fear; fear is a temporary form of energy that your thoughts generate.

2. Fear of success.

Fear of success is more prevalent and complicated than most people think. It’s one of the most cryptic and misunderstood fears, and it may be the most prevalent fear that blocks success! The fear of success is characterized by a conflict between different sets of goals that are either conscious or subconscious.

The antithesis of fear of success is aligned minds, which is when you have complete alignment between your conscious goals and your subconscious mind. To resolve fear of success, you must identify the conscious and subconscious goals that sabotage your conscious goals, and then meet all of your goals, or consciously let go of the less important ones.

3. Fear of rejection.

Fear of rejection blocks you from being your authentic self. It’s the fear that others won’t accept you for who you are, what you believe and how you act. It can control you and destroy your personal and business relationships. At the core of fear of rejection is lack of self-acceptance and wondering, “Am I OK?”

Fear of rejection is a vicious circle. If you’re afraid of rejection, you tend to be rejected often. This causes you to expect to be rejected and fear it more, which creates even more rejection. Strengthening your self-esteem is a critical aspect of resolving fear of rejection.

4. Fear of selling.

Fear of selling is an extremely prevalent block to success in both the entrepreneurial and corporate world. It includes selling services, products, ideas and yourself. It’s a multidimensional fear that may include fear of failure, success, rejection, self-promotion and embarrassment, as well as fear of being pushy, disliked and judged, among others.

To begin to resolve the fear of selling, consider reframing how you think about it. When done correctly, it’s a helpful and important service. In my work with sales professionals I teach them to create the “love’ em and serve’ em” mindset when selling.

To sell your best, you have to prepare your mind.

Think about world-class athletes. How do they prepare for a competition? How do they get in the “zone”? Great athletes create the right physical, mental (positive and negative thoughts) and emotional (confidence and relaxation) energy to be their best. The same concepts apply to great salespeople.

Conclusion. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection and fear of selling are all learned fears, not innate fears. You can unlearn what you’ve learned. When you discover how to identify the fears you have, you can gain control of them and unleash your full potential!

An amazing experience the first weekend of this month with Barbara Marx Hubbard and Jean Houston has me fired up and on track to revolutionize business-as-usual. Perhaps I should say ‘Evolutionize’!

Barbara spoke so eloquently of our need as a society to truly embrace our purpose as vocation and move toward a new paradigm of heart centered business evolution for the greater good.

These are her words…

“This emerging social potential movement is not revolutionary, but evolutionary. Its aim is not to destroy, but to fulfill. When the butterfly emerges, it doesn’t deny the caterpillar – it is the caterpillar evolved. This movement is not an attack on another group or an assertion that “our way is better”. The movement is not here to attack but to attract. Its purpose is to evolve all of us, our communities, and our world so that all people are free to fulfill their highest potential.”

From the extensive conversations I’ve been having with business owners, unemployed corporate executives and present time j.o.b. holders – there is an acute awareness of the ‘breakdown’ in our economic and social fabric. However, what we are not hearing as much about from our illustrious global media is the swell of ‘break-throughs’ that have been occurring all over the planet. According to Barbara, “Yes, something is dying here, yet it’s vitally important that we recognize that something is also being born!”

There is a new awareness in our conscious evolution that is allowing us to tap into the collective intelligence of our Universe in a way that hasn’t been previously recognized by the mass number of people that are becoming keenly sensitive to it in today’s society.

Why is this good?

As a conscious business leader I find this phenomenon incredibly exciting because it means that we must become fully awake and transparent with regards to our service and offerings. People are quickly developing highly sensitive bull-shit meters! 

We are faced with so much information and so many choices everyday that we are adapting to having to make rapid decisions on simple ‘bytes’ of information.  We are learning to disseminate information outside of just our intellect and utilize all of our resources such as emotional and physical sensations and promptings (previously denied as ‘not being rational’). We are also learning to tap into the energy of collective intelligence that allows us to communicate with our ‘Higher Self’. Jean Houston refers to this ‘Higher Self’ as the Entelechy (en-tel-uh-key). This is literally The Next Highest Version of YOU calling you forward, offering guidance and wisdom along the way – if you listen!

Why does it feel so hard?

Our systems are crumbling before our very eyes and they cannot be fixed by the people within the system. They want to restore it to its previous state of being yet that system no longer supports our planet, our economy or the education of future generations in a healthy, highest-good-for-all way.

We have been thrown deep into the ocean of uncertainty without water wings and a receding shoreline. People in general are fearful of the unknown and are desperately seeking something familiar to cling to.

The ironic thing is that the harder you swim and struggle to reach a familiar shore, the sooner you will exhaust yourself and quite possibly miss an extraordinary opportunity that you allow to sail right by because it doesn’t feel ‘familiar’.

Choose Change…

Although it may seem impossible at first, see if you can spend a little bit of time every day to just float in that ocean of uncertainty, which is the collective intelligence, and allow yourself to ‘feel’ supported and relaxed. Trust –even if just for a minute that you and your loved ones are being carried by a powerful current of love and possibility toward an even greater, more harmonious existence–a place where your authentic creativity is not only honored but handsomely compensated!

We are moving into a place of spiritual adulthood and are beginning to recognize and even master the creation of our own existence. Yes, thoughts really do equal things!

To Your Heart & Soul Success,

As our world and our human consciousness evolve more and more, people are seeking ways to build soulful and heart-based businesses.   Their business building steps often take them down the wrong pathway when they try to build their businesses from traditional, linear based marketing techniques–most of which are built on very different values than the values needed to build and sustain these new soul-centered businesses.

Building a soul-centered business from a traditional place is at best not using all of your resources, and arguably, not using your most powerful resources!

Today, we need new information and a new marketing plan that are congruent with our new services.  We need to begin to embody our businesses in everything; branding, content, our relationship with our customers, and the way we interact with making money.  To create a vibrant business out of our passions, we need to authentically ‘be’ and express that ‘being-ness’.

To embody something, for the purpose of this article, means to feel and know it with your entire body.  It means using your body as a sensory device and an organ of perception that connects with your cognitive processing in a way that creates meaning—meaning that informs powerful action because it is coming from all of you; mind, heart and soul.`

How do we embody the heart and soul of our business?

 This is where horses can play a key role.  Horses are consummate teachers of how to use our bodies as sensory devices and organs of perception.  We like to say that they make conscious for us what is currently unconscious.  For the most part, we have no idea what we are putting across to others, what we are blocking from our teams and ourselves, and what we are attracting and how that is impacting our lives and businesses—things that to build and sustain a vibrant business you must know!!

Horses help you learn…

You could spend time – lots of time absorbing information via traditional tele-conferences and even attending live workshops and seminars, but as you come away inspired and knowledgeable, you will not come away embodying that new knowledge in a way that informs powerful and authentic profit-building action, in the way that horses can provide through equine assisted training.

Your new business building lessons will only ‘stick’ for you when you physically & spiritually engage yourself with your new learning in a meaningful way that validates your actual evolution in the way that horses can provide.  Then the lessons become a part of the next highest version of who you really are!

Some of you who don’t quite get this new evolution for your business (and life!) may read this and completely turn away. But the rest of you are beginning to vibrate with excitement, and intuitively understand that you are ready to truly embody the power of your ‘self’ with nature and share it with the world!

As children we were more open to learning with our entire being—we did not yet  compartmentalize our learning opportunities.  When we were kids, everything and everyday was a learning opportunity.  Guess what?  It still is…. and horses are wonderful and extraordinary teachers and team mates as we go about the “play” of embodying the heart and soul of our businesses!

With all the beads, prayers, affirmations, “laws of abundance,” and other woo-woo business accoutrements flying around these days, you’d think there’s some fire sale promotion going on spirituality.

Maybe it’s the rough economy, or the unsettling pace of change. Business seems to be getting more and more difficult, and support is hard to come by. When you’re struggling, the idea of having the unseen realms backing you is pretty appealing.

But can getting more spiritual really help your business?

For some of us, spirituality is everyday stuff. It’s how you relate to the world, in business just as in all other things. It’s what’s for lunch. As the Zen master Suzuki Roshi said, it’s “Nothing special.”

For others, spirituality in the realm of business can seem profane, inappropriate, or just plain bizarre.

So which is it? Is spirituality the missing leverage point in business — or is it just plain wrong to use spirituality to get what you want?

What the Heaven is spirituality?

Spirituality is one of those words that can be tricky to define.

The Oxford American Dictionary defines it as:

… of, relating to, or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to the material or physical things.

I would define spirituality as any connection we feel to a greater purpose, existence, or reality than ourselves. It means there is a core Oneness that everything comes from and everything returns to.

Ever been in love? You know what I’m talking about.

Things spirituality doesn’t really work for

On a power trip? Spirituality is not going to get you world domination.

If you want to manipulate people into doing something that’s not in their best interest, your connection to love and all-that-is ain’t gonna help you.

Because spirituality isn’t a tool or technique, you can’t “use” it like that. When people describe their spiritual experiences, they tend to use words like:

• “awe-inspiring”
• “humbling”
• “connected to everything”
• “full of love”
• “deep trust and peacefulness”

If you’re trying to trick people into spending money on something worthless, it’s pretty doubtful those words describe your state of mind.

But hold on … something seems familiar here.

Copywriting, business, and spirituality

Here are a couple of key themes about copywriting and sales that you’re probably familiar with if you’re a regular Copyblogger reader:

• You’ve got to believe in yourself and your product.
• You need an attitude of service.
• Rather than talking endlessly about yourself, you have to listen to your readers and engage them in conversation.
• You have to care about your audience.

Great salespeople and marketers, the ones you feel good about and look up to instead of feeling slimed by, have this combination of confidence and humility, caring and willingness to deliver on their promises.

Are you starting to see what I’m seeing?

Maybe this spirituality thing could be helpful after all

I don’t know about you, but that sounds like an amazing way to spend my time.

To be awe-inspired by the presence of the people you are wanting to help, to be humble and not distracted by trying to be something or someone you’re not, to feel connected to everything and full of love. And to have it all grounded in deep trust and peacefulness.

If your blog posts, tweets, products, content, conversations, and connections reflected that sort of approach, what would that do for your business? Or for that matter, for your life?

Spiritual teacher soup

Listen, I may have been designated as a master teacher in my spiritual lineage. I may have years of spiritual practice behind me.

But let me tell you, all I need is a bunch of cool people to launch cool things while I’m sitting on the sidelines and all my internal voices get going.

I’m an incompetent booby. I’ll never catch up with those guys. Maybe what I do doesn’t matter anyway.

I get worried and upset and angry.

The usual things that I’m tempted to do in moments like that (work harder, be brilliant, eat too much ice cream) tend to be completely ineffective.

In fact, they leave me feeling even worse.

Maybe you’re the same. You end up doing crazy things. Like buying yet another high-priced program when you already know what to do. Or launching a sales page that feels like it was written by a sleazy car salesman. Or retreating into a corner, too paralyzed and overwhelmed to do anything at all.

That’s one of the very useful things about spiritual practice. My practice allows me to drop all of those thoughts very quickly, saving me from acting on those impulses, from sabotaging myself or scaring off our clients.

It allows my heart to drink the love, peace and groundedness it thirsts for.

That’s the real payoff. The side effect? I’m more on-point with what I’m doing. Efficient, effective, connected.

Mother Teresa — you know, that once-unknown little nun who mobilized tens of thousands of people to care for the poorest of the poor, and trotted the globe bringing in millions of dollars and creating a legacy that has lasted far past her death?

She insisted that everyone associated with her Missionaries of Charity spend precious hours in spiritual practice every day, even when there was the pressing need of dying and starving people all around.

Why? Because getting stuff done simply wasn’t enough.

Ticking items off a to-do list is draining. But understanding that what you do and who you are into the world is an expression of profound love and caring — that’s when miracles happen.

It worked for her. It works for my business and our clients. It can work for you, too.

Have your spirit call my spirit, they’ll do lunch

As the great Sufi sheikh Ibn al Arabi said,

All streams lead to the Ocean.

There are a million ways to connect to spirit. Some are organized, some are eclectic. Some are communal, some personal. All, hopefully, are grounded in love and service.

I share my Sufism with two poets you may have heard of, Rumi and Hafiz. Sufis talk about Remembrance as a spiritual practice. That this connection with spirit is not something to cross off a to-do list or a technique to be mastered, but an essential part of who you are that is simply to be Remembered.

What if you were to stop in the middle of your busy day, right in the middle of your never-ending task list, right in the middle of the sales page copy or blog post you’ve been pushing uphill, and took time to speak to your heart and ask it to remember?

To remember that love and connection are essential to your business.

To remember that you aren’t alone, and that you don’t need to be anyone other than who you are.

To remember that it’s okay to be humble and in service, and that you are cared for deeply.

No one has to watch you do this. If you want help, I did a short audio to guide folks, Ack! Where’s My Heart?

Stop working so hard. Use all of that tremendous will power and individual force that you’ve been given to ease off the gas pedal and just stop. Stop. Breathe. Remember love.

When you step on the gas again, you just might find it easier to do whatever you were struggling with before, and making bigger ripples once it’s out there. Who, after all, can resist love?

And to top it all off, your planet has a loving, brilliant consciousness all her own, and of her countless balancing acts, healing herself is one in which she truly shines.

Of this, and so much more, you can be very, very proud.
