Some people are entirely motivated by the thought of having a lot of money and bounce from one shiny promise of riches to the next in hopes of acquiring as much as they can. They rarely keep what they earn and often burn out within a few years.

Others are motivated by the game of creating wealth; they expect money to be an end result of their efforts. Those are the people who actually have and continue to create money.

I recently enrolled in a book study with Helen Graves, the founder of the International Association of Spiritual and Energy Practitioners (www.iasep.org) and panelist at the upcoming Conscious Evolution of Giving and Gaining event. The book we are studying is titled, Spiritual Economics; The Principles and Process of True Prosperity written by Eric Butterworth. This is a topic that is challenging for so many people who claim to want to experience prosperity in their life and business.

Those of us who are not ‘motivated’ by money can easily be distracted from creating money through our work because we forget to ASK for what we want. Sometimes the more spiritual the individual the more difficult it is for them to ask the Universe to give them what they want. People who have created wealth for themselves not only ask for what they want, they command and expect it!

Eric Butterworth writes, “You ask for water from the faucet by turning on the tap. You ask for light from the lamp by throwing the switch…”

I love this example because it beautifully illustrates our need to participate in our own good. You don’t hold your empty glass under the faucet and pray for water. No matter how long or how diligently you visualize or plead with God to fill you glass, nothing will happen until you turn the handle on the faucet! Ask yourself what faucet are you standing in front of that is just waiting for you to turn the handle and let your abundance flow? Did you bring a cup or a bucket to the faucet of abundance?

What would you ask for if you knew, no matter what, the answer would be YES?

What would you be willing to risk or give up in order to make room for YES?

Who would you spend your time with? What would you be reading? Who would be your mentors?

How much would you be willing to invest in yourself so that you could shine your light a little brighter, reach out to more people with your own special brand of transformation and prosper yourself?

Allowing yourself to get involved with these life expanding thoughts can definitely make you feel good, for awhile. But if you don’t take action, those thoughts will amount to nothing more than a feel good band-aid. The real game changer is in the actions you take while you maintain those thoughts and the feelings they evoke!

What faucets are you turning on in your life and business? Is it time to tap a new well? If you are doing the same activities, associating with the same people week in and week out you may need to step into something new for a change. When you take a chance on something new, it changes you. You come away from that experience with more to offer your present clients as well as a greater ability to attract new clients!

There Are No Coincidences

There are no coincidences.  That’s a powerful statement, isn’t it?  Many years ago I would have questioned the sanity behind such a belief but so many apparent “coincidences” have supported, suggested and facilitated life-making decisions that I can no longer ignore its existence.   

I’m sure you’re wondering how this relates to abundance.  Stay with me!  When you put forth sincere and heart-felt effort toward growing yourself and your business, isn’t it true that favorable circumstances often manifest through some of the most difficult challenges, leaving you gratefully perplexed at how life unfolded?

The Universe supports you in what you do, what you think.  When you do what is required to put forth your unique talents and passion, you will attract abundance in all the forms that abundance can take, whether personal growth, financial or in relationships.

Take a moment to ponder the “coincidences” that have happened in your life and express gratitude for the “good luck.” Then keep an eye out for the next happy coincidence coming your way.

Trusting that the Universe has your back during times of financial upheaval may be one of the greatest opportunities for spiritual growth you will have in your lifetime. It requires that you reclaim your creative power from the illusion of what is missing in your life, in this instance, money.

You are a powerful conscious creator. Appreciate your own magnificent power in having created the circumstances you are presently experiencing. Acknowledge the lesson you needed to learn and then shift your focus like a laser beam on what you want to manifest.

Now here is the key component to all of this. You must relax and trust that the money is already flowing to you through expected and unexpected sources. Do not try to force or contain the flow.

As a powerful co-creator your job is to determine the feeling you want to experience as a result of the abundance in your life. The Universe gets to decide how that abundance gets delivered!

Are you really surprised by those words? Although the concept of “tuning in” is familiar, many people are unable to apply this universal principle in their lives when it comes to money, when it comes to abundance and prosperity. Today I give thanks for the funds and the physical well being to pay this bill.

That’s a lot different than saying today I give thanks for the funds and the physical well being to pay all of my bills.

Sometimes we give up on our affirmations because they feel so far out of proportion from the reality we may be facing at the moment.

Make a list of the things you CAN do with the resources you have today and give heartfelt ‘Thanks’ for that.

Your energy of appreciation will spill over into all areas of life and will ultimately attract the abundance you desire to satisfy all of your financial needs.

Today I give thanks for the funds and the physical well being to pay this bill. Done!

Spiritual Money Minute – Are You Making Others Feel Guilty?

People who experience financial scarcity often are very generous and giving with their time and energy but not able to receive, or ask for more.  Is this you?

If people pay you for your service, ask yourself this; Is it more important that people like you because you are generous and giving or is it more important that they get the RESULTS that they pay for?

They will gladly come back and pay for the benefits and RESULTS you provide and still like you for who you are. When you continuously give yourself away people feel guilty and out of exchange. They will begin to avoid you because they feel uncomfortable.

When you value the benefits you offer others enough to ask to be compensated for what you are worth! Others will value you too.

Spiritual Money Minute – Are You Pushing Abundance Away?

If you can imagine with me for a moment that how you do money is how you do everything, would you consider changing the way you ‘do’ certain things?

Let’s examine ‘values’ for just another minute and then I want to share a story about a very inspiring man I met 10 days ago.

Here is a short list of values that I hear from people; I encourage you to add your own:

What are your values with regards to money?

You may debate the statement I made earlier about ‘how you do money is how you do everything’, and you may even debate the fact that money is a value. I actually don’t believe that money is a value, but most people place such a high value on money that the belief has become more powerful than the fact.

I was assisting my colleagues, Mark and Bria Simpson at their Excel Event earlier this month and was delighted to listen to Mark interview his college roommate and friend Mike Galgon. Mike shared the history of how he had tried and failed 3 times over a 7 year period to create a business around selling ad space on the internet. He began this endeavor in 1997. Mike literally lived in his van for 6 months when he was just beginning. Although he clearly saw the potential returns possible for people to advertise online, the mainstream public just didn’t understand the value of it (yet).

His idea was ahead of its time

In the meantime he and his partners created other businesses based on what he was learning were the present advertising needs of the businesses owners he was serving. Finally, the online advertising niche he envisioned began to take off in 2004. The market was finally ready; businesses now understood the value of online advertising. Flash forward to 2007; Microsoft also sees the value of online advertising and in an attempt to keep up with Google they buy Mike’s company aQuantive for $6 Billion dollars! That’s BILLION with a ‘B’!

Create Value for Others

Mike’s account of how he and his partners created their businesses was inspirational on many levels. The one key component that impressed me the most was the company’s allegiance to their values. They were team players and honored self-expression, creativity, integrity and the VALUE of what they were creating for their customers.

He shared that at one time he had to make a very difficult decision to fire his top salesperson. This person was single-handedly bringing in as much business as the rest of the sales force combined!

Here’s where we come back to the ‘Value of a Buck’, or several thousand bucks as in this instance.  The leading sales person was basically a jerk to other people in the company and chose not to be a team player. Mike and his partners had to decide whether or not the profits this sales person generated was worth compromising their team values and the integrity of everything they had created. The short term answer of letting this person go was terrifying – it meant cutting their income in half. But the long term prospects of tolerating the attitude and behavior of someone only looking out for themselves was demoralizing to everyone.

The results were that when they fired that sales person the rest of the team felt supported and valued and became a much more productive and cohesive group. The rest of the story of course is that everyone experienced incredible returns as a result of honoring their instincts and values.

Getting Help and Advice

One other valuable nugget that Mike shared with us was how he has always worked with a mentor (or several) during the evolution of his businesses. He was able to share his ideas with 3^rd party experts who could objectively offer feedback, advice, resources or training on whatever phase of the business he may have been struggling with. Mike’s words were, “A mentor / coach helps to hold the balance card for you.”

How true! Creating a business (especially on your own) is a tremendous balancing act. There are so many moving parts. Sometimes we just need someone to help us understand which part needs to move first in order for the others to fall into place.

What are you tolerating that is preventing you from achieving the next level in your business? (Relationship? Habit? Belief? Clutter? Excuse? – be specific) Ex: Mike and his partners were tolerating the negative energy and attitude of a team player that compromised their business values. They feared letting him go would cause a devastating financial blow to their company.

The author Arnold Patent beautifully illustrates how a core belief is one that has a lot of hidden power in it.

Have you invested a lot of your power into money; the power to provide you with food, shelter and clothing; power to bring you security; power to bring you success; power to bring you status and importance in your community, and the power to provide you with all the pleasures of life?

With all this power invested in it, money certainly qualifies as a core belief. When you place your power in money you diminish the power and trust in the Principle of Abundance: Abundance is our natural state. If you are experiencing less than total abundance in each and every area of your life then you are literally pushing abundance away. If money is not present in your life then you can be sure that you are actively pushing abundance away.

The sole purpose of money is to express and experience appreciation. What are we appreciating? We are appreciating Self – who we are, the Power and Presence of Source (the God of your heart), and the natural state of unlimited Abundance. Remember all POWER lies within us  all of the time.

Spiritual Money Minute – Replace the Anti-Prosperity Program

The desire for more money can often brings forth feelings of shame. Many people feel guilty for wanting more for themselves and their families. Sometimes this is because they believe if that if they have more then someone else will have less. But another deeply buried subconscious belief comes from our collective consciousness and has been running an outdated anti-prosperity program for thousands of years.

This is a belief that the people with property, wealth and power gained their position through intimidation, greed, pillage and slavery. This used to be primarily true in our not so distant past.

Now, as heart-centered entrepreneurs our intentions are benevolent and generous which directly opposes those out-dated subconscious beliefs.

A new belief is needed to transform your relationship with money and your ability to expand who you are and what you have to offer.

Allow the energetic flow of money in your business to reflect the expansion of your soul’s divine purpose. The greater the expansion the more good you have to share. After all, you are not here to merely survive, you are here to evolve and expand to the next highest version of who you really are!
